“Talkin’ ‘Bout My Generation”

I was 12 years old when The Who’s recording of My Generation was released today in 1965. The lyrics certainly were an anthem for many of the Baby Boomer generation as they simply declared:

“Why don’t you all f-fade away (Talkin’ ’bout my generation)

And don’t try to d-dig what we all s-s-say (Talkin’ ’bout my generation)

I’m not trying to ’cause a b-big s-s-sensation (Talkin’ ’bout my generation)

I’m just talkin’ ’bout my g-g-generation (Talkin’ ’bout my generation)”Pete Townshend

I hope today that My Generation along with the younger generation 18 years and up get out and vote in the U.S. today. “American youth attributes much more importance to arriving at driver’s license age than at voting age.”Marshall McLuhan

Sometimes we may feel “Why bother to vote?” Then you have to think of other places in the world where citizens do not have the right to vote. We must also remember years and years of struggle for ALL citizens to have the right to vote in the U.S.A.

Amazing, Yetta thought. Back home I couldn’t have chosen my own husband. And here I’m thinking about choosing presidents, governors, mayors, laws…”-Margaret Peterson Haddix, Uprising
