Love “At Seventeen!” There are soooo many songs/artists out there to remember…can’t remember them all, but I’m trying!!!!!
It seems that you and I are very much on the same page when it comes to musical taste. I’m a lyric gal. Always have been. I will be coming back to read more. Awesome work!
Great…I seem to be working on my daily posting everyday and need to get back to the pages and add more! Thanks for stopping by!
Ilene — What a wonderful list, a hall of fame of memories as well as music. Thanks for dropping by the blog for my show, and for giving me a reason to discover this fun blog destination. I’ll be back.
Wow, what a list. a lot of my favorites there too. Bronx and Brooklyn were worlds apart, but we shared a common ground.
Thanks so much!!!! Bronx…Brooklyn…it’s all NY!!!!!!!
I’ve blogged on many of these songs. But I like the fact that you had Flute Thing by the Blues Project. One awesome song. I can see right now you’re a fellow hippie. lol…or maybe just a baby boomer like me.
I hope you add one from Richie Havens. Our Woodstock artists are leaving us way too rapidly. Thanks for the like.
Definitely a “fellow” baby boomer/hippie/lover of folk music and most genres. Richie will be missed. Taken from us far too soon! Thanks for comment! Flute Thing? What a piece of music…genius…beautiful!!!!! I’m just so sad about Richie!
Just saw Eric Andersen a couple of weeks back in Boston.
OMG….LUCKY YOU!!!!! How was he? I so loved so many of his songs, “Thirsty Boots,” “Violets of Dawn,” Close the Door Lightly When You Go,” “My Land is a Good Land” and so many more. I also thought he was so cute on the cover of his Bout Changes & Things Take 2! That is so wonderful you got to see him recently!!!!!
Nice post, this hits me where I still live. British Isles folk is perhaps my most serious addiction, but there is so much great music, and so little time! And it looks as if I must find time to follow your blog, too, thanks.
Thank you for visiting and now following. I like your blog, too!!!!!
Excellent post – so good to see that Dave Van Ronk isn’t forgotten and you can’t beat ‘Sam Stone’ either.
OMG, you’re right, I love John Prine’s Sam Stone came home with a needle in his arm…Will never forget that song!!!Thanks so much for visiting and commenting!
I reckon you would like the ‘Inside Llewyn Davis’ soundtrack http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t-vC6DZJmlw
Also Leonard Cohen’s latest album, ‘Old Ideas’. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wmObT8HhLS0
You have a great site here.
ABSOLUTELY…yesterday I was singing “Dink’s Song” in the car. Can’t wait to see the movie even with all of the mixed reviews. Love Leonard Cohen..thanks so much!!!!! Keep visiting!
The movie is released here on 14 Jan. Can’t wait as well!!! Love Coen Brothers movies and folk music. I hope my expectations aren’t too high.
I love the Coen Bros. as well EVEN if the movie may be disappointing…the only movie they made that I really didn’t like at all was “O Brother…” with George Clooney, couldn’t even finish it. I think the brothers are very talented.
I agree about ‘O Brother’ it is probably my least favourite. Mind you I have only seen it once and I should probably see it again, just to make sure. haha
Nah…I don’t think you should waste your time seeing it again.
I forgot to mention a relatively unknown Melbourne based group you might called, ‘My Friend the Chocolate Cake’. This song below is from the lead singer and founder, David Bridie. He is a singer-songwriter’s, singer-songwriter if you know what I mean, although not a household name in Australia. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YbK0q0MdUPI
I wasn’t crazy for this song, but I did enjoy “Sirens.” Thanks so much, I had never heard of them.
Ok This is my last comment regarding ‘My Friend’. Check these two on for size and I’ll never bother you again about them Haha
This video was filmed at the local weekend markets where I used to live in Melbourne.
Home Improvements http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c3odrxVLN-Q
‘A Midlife’s’ tale’ is one of my favourite ‘My Friend the Chocolate Cake’ http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NghOwfoc-HI
I’ll let you be now 🙂
I like Midlife’s Tale better than Home Improvements. Thanks so much!!! I also looked at site of that young writer, Eli, that you mentioned on your site. Thanks for that, too.
I liked his story Chillers. I found myself chuckling a lot and it reminded me of my home.
