TODAY is the shortest day of the year and several things happened on Dec. 21st: The “Black Babe Ruth,” (as he has been called), Josh Gibson was born in Georgia in 1911 and became a star of the “Negro Leagues” and died shortly before the integration of the Major Baseball Leagues. Also today, the very first crossword puzzle made its debut in a newspaper in 1913 called The New York World. My mom does her crossword puzzle from The Daily News 7 days a week, helps keeps her mind strong. I do them also, but not daily.
