Two beautiful songs were certified gold today in 1968 when I was 15 years old and I know I loved them then and continue to love them now. To be certified gold means that half a million singles had to have been sold. The first song was “By the Time I Get to Phoenix”by Jimmy Webb and the 2nd was the late John Hartford’s “Gentle On My Mind” and it was Glen Campbell’s recordings that went gold for both songs!!!! It’s so sad that Glen Campbell has Alzheimer’s Disease and just the other day I read that Kris Kristofferson has been having memory problems for the last several years due to concussions he suffered playing football and boxing.
I would say that Jimmy Webb, John Hartford, Glen Campbell and Kris Kristofferson are great examples of having done what the educator, theologian, philosopher, Civil Rights activist, Howard Thurman, born today in Florida in 1899, once said:
