“None But Ourselves Can Free Our Minds.”-Bob Marley

Music is a wonderful way to “free our minds!” Today in music history, quite a few beautiful voices were born: Brook Benton in 1941 (“Rainy Night in Georgia), Bill Medley of the Righteous Bros. in 1940, Cass Elliot (Mama Cass) of The Mamas & the Papas in 1941, Freda Payne (“Band of Gold”) in 1945 and maybe not the greatest voice, but a wonderful interpreter, fiddler, brilliant musician, etc, David Bromberg also in 1945. Hope Brook Benton and Mama Cass are making beautiful music somewhere out there!!!!!

Many years ago (at least 42 years ago), I had the good fortune to see Freda Payne live at the Granite Hotel in the Catskills. This was years after her hit with “Band of Gold.” She was great!!!! I also had the privilege to see David Bromberg in Brooklyn College’s SUBO (Student Union Building Org) probably around ’70 or ’71 when the student union started their “coffee shop” concerts, must’ve cost $3.00 a ticket. Oh, he was amazing!
