“When a Man Loves a Woman”

“When a man loves a woman

Can’t keep his mind on nothin’ else

He’d trade the world

For a good thing he’s found”

Where were you in 1966 when Percy Sledge’s recording of “When a Man Loves a Woman” was released on 4/9/1966?   I was a 13 year old Brooklyn girl…always into music and poetry…and fell in love with the song. Percy Sledge poured his guts and heart into “When a Man Loves a Woman” and the song, like all great songs, still stirs up emotions.

“Words make you think. Music makes you feel. A song makes you feel a thought.”

Yip Harburg (Lyricist)
