“All directors are storytellers, so the motivation was to tell the story I wanted to tell. That`s what I love.” –Spike Lee
Happy 56th Birthday, Mr. Spike Lee! I have always enjoyed Spike Lee’s films; they’re provocative and have the ability to stir many emotions all at once. As his quote reveals, Spike pursued his passion of storytelling through the medium of directing. He had a great deal of motivation and let nothing get in his way. Most of his films have stirred controversy as they touched the hot button topics of racism, violence, government inaction, family relationships, and other subjects that may make some feel uncomfortable, but hopefully make more people see the light and take positive action.
Here are just 5 of his films that I’ve really enjoyed and have seen more than once (Click onto each title and read an interesting article when you have the time):
What is your motivation in life? I know that mine has always been to make a difference in the lives of others; I’ve successfully accomplished and continue to work on that goal through teaching; parenting; marriage; care-giving…As my son tells me, “Mom, you’ve still got a lot of gas in that tank!”
